My Favorite Things

My Favorite Things

Since 5th grade, I've read this book four times going on six. I LOVE the writing style and the life-changing messages the author portrays to me. The narrator is a boy living in what he has to come to find out is a secluded controlled society with assigned jobs, emotions, houses etc. as members age. His assignment on his 12th birthday is the 'RECIEVER OF MEMORY', when a mysterious man "gives" him the memories of the outside world. After grasping the story itself, I applied various lessons learned from this book to my own life. And to think this book was assigned to me in detention!

My favorite show right now aside from "Sex in the City" is HBO's new series, "How to Make It in America." It's about a couple of guys looking for the NEXT "get rich quick" scheme in New York City. I've watched and participated a bit in my own friends failed and successful attempts doing the same thing these guys in the show are. Rooftop BBQ's in Soho, sneaking into art galleries, late nights lost in the Village, etc. all introducing ourselves as people we weren't to get into places we weren't supposed to be. Not only is this show right on the money on how it really is, unlike other shows, it's also a blast for me to watch whilst reminiscing my own adventures.
